The groups for the ICC men T20 world cup which will be hosted by the BCCI in Oman and the United Arab Emirates from October 17 to November 14, were released today by the International Cricket Council (ICC). In Group 1 of the Super 12s, the defending champions, the West Indies, are paired with former champions England, Australia, and South Africa as well as two more Round 1 qualifiers. The groups were chosen based on team rankings as of 20 March 2021.
Former champions India and Pakistan, as well as New Zealand, Afghanistan, and the other two Round 1 qualifiers will make up Group 2. Eight teams, including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh who qualified automatically, will compete in the first round. The other six teams secured their spots through the ICC men T20 world cup.
Oman, PNG, and Scotland will play Bangladesh in Group B, while Ireland, the Netherlands, and Namibia will play together with Sri Lanka in Group A. The divisions:
Round 1: Group A consists of Namibia, Sri Lanka, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, and the Oman Super 12s comprise Group B.
Group 1: West Indies, A1 and B2; England, Australia, South Africa; and Australia.
Group 2: includes Afghanistan, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Pakistan, A2, and B1.
