Ireland and Their Test History | CBTF Tips

 

Ireland is going on a tour of England in July, and it will be hosted in London. The match of Eng vs Ire is scheduled for 1 Jun, and it is only a test match. The England tour of Ireland is one of the hyped upcoming cricket matches in Ireland. Irish has played only three test matches after getting full membership in ICC in 2017. The chief executive of Cricket Ireland, Warren Deutrom, declared the ambition of playing the test in 2012, and his desire came true in 2017 along with Afghanistan.

Ireland played their first-ever test match against Pakistan in 2018 at their home. The Irish team lost their first match, but they impressed the critics. Ireland won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Pak vs Ire (First Match)

The Pakistan batter came to open, and Tim Murtagh opened the bowling attack. Pakistan lost its openers very early, but the middle order took care of them. Asad Shafiq, Shadab Khan, and Faheem Ashraf scored a half-century, and Pakistan put a respectable total on the scoreboard. Tim Murtagh was the most successful bowler with 4 wickets, Stuart Thompson and Boyd Rankin took 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Pakistan declared the first innings on 310 runs with a loss of 9 wickets. 

Ireland came to bat in the first innings but lost their wickets very early. The Irish middle order was also disappointed and got out on duck. Kevin O’Brien (40) was the highest scorer of the first inning, and Gary Wilson(33) was the second-highest scorer. Mohammad Abbas was the most successful bowler with 4 wickets, and Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, and Faheem Ashraf took 3, 2, and 1 wickets respectively. Ireland got out on 130 runs in the first innings, and Pakistan gave the follow-on to Ireland.

Ireland came to bat due to follow-on. The Irish opener gave them a good start and lost the first wickets on 69 runs as Ed Joyce ran out after scoring 43(98). Kevin O’Brien scored a century and got out after scoring 118 runs. He hit the first-ever century in a test for Ireland. Stuart Thompson is the second scorer and scored a half-century. Ireland got out after scoring 339 runs. Mohammad Abbas was the highest wicket-taker with 5 wickets, and Mohammad Amir & Shadab Khan took 3 and 1 wicket respectively.

Pakistan got the target of 160 runs, but Ireland didn’t make things easy for Pakistan. Murtagh gave them the first success as he sent Azhar Ali to the pavilion. The middle order got out very early, but Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq made a partnership and crossed the line. In the end, Pakistan scored 160 runs with a loss of 5 wickets, and they won the match by 5 wickets.

Eng Vs Ire ( Latest Match)

The test match of England vs Ireland was the latest cricket match of Ireland, and it was played in 2019. It was the third test match of Ireland, and England won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision of the English captain got wrong, and England got out at 85.

The 85 runs were disrespectful to England as it was only the third match of Ireland, and the English team was playing at their home. The England opener got out very early, and the middle order also didn’t contribute to the team. Three English batters couldn’t open their account and got out on duck. Joe Denly was the highest scorer with 23 runs, and Olly Stone was the second-highest run-scorer with 19 runs. England got out at 85 runs in the first over. Tim Murtagh was the most successful bowler with 5 wickets, Mark Adair and Boyd Rankin took 3 and 2 wickets.

Ireland came to bat in the second innings with huge confidence and lost their first wickets at 32 runs. The Irish batter couldn’t convert their good start into a big score. Andy Balbirnie was the only batter to score the half-century, and Paul Stirling & Kevin O’Brien scored 36 and 28 runs respectively. Ireland scored 207-10 in their first inning.

England came to bat in the second innings with a dis-hearting first inning. Jack Leach and Rory Burns came to open. England made a big change in their second inning and sent Jack Leach as an opener. He didn’t disappoint the captain and scored 92 runs. Jason Roy scored a half-century, and other batters struggled to score runs. England scored 303 runs.

Ireland got a target of 182 runs, but their batters disappointed fans. No batters reached double digits except James McCollum. Ireland got all out at 38 runs, and England got their revenge and won the match by 143 runs.
