He had a successful domestic cricketing career, primarily with Worcestershire, but he also played for Derbyshire and Natal. Illingworth represented England in nine Test matches and twenty-five One Day Internationals. He is not related to Ray Illingworth, despite some reports suggesting otherwise. He played for Worcestershire and Derbyshire, participating in nine Tests and twenty-five ODIs for England, including the 1992 and 1996 Cricket World Cups. One-Day International Career

Richard Keith Illingworth had a successful One-Day International (ODI) career. In 1990, he had his most productive year, taking 75 wickets at a bowling average of 28.29. During the 1991 Texaco Trophy One Day International series against West Indies, he played a crucial part in the match, allowing the tourists just 20 runs from his ten overs for the wicket of Jeff Dujon, and then putting on an unbroken partnership of 23 with Mike Atherton as England recorded a thrilling one-wicket victory.

In the 1992 World Cup, he played in the final, giving away 50 runs in his 10 overs for the wicket of Javed Miandad, and also catching Imran Khan at long-on. He also appeared four times in the 1996 World Cup. After that, the selectors’ preference turned decisively to Phil Tufnell, and Illingworth never played international cricket again.

Test Career

Played in nine Tests and twenty-five ODIs for England. He took 19 wickets with an average of 37.42 in Test matches. He scored 293 runs with an average of 14.14 in Test matches. He made his Test debut on 6 June 1991 against West Indies and played his last Test on 8 August 1995 against West Indies.
