Ravindra Jadeja is expected to play in Saurashtra's next Ranji Trophy match - against Punjab - in Rajkot, starting January 22. There are also strong indications that Shubman Gill too will feature in the match.
Cricbuzz learnt about Jadeja's participation moments after the ODI series against New Zealand concluded in Indore, which India lost 2-1. It has also been learnt that Gill too will travel to Rajkot, pending a last-minute decision.
Formal confirmation of both is expected by Monday, and should they make themselves available for the Group B match, they would be travelling in reverse direction - from Indore to Rajkot. They had come to Indore from Rajkot after the second ODI.
Saurashtra and Punjab are placed in the lower half of their Elite Group, with the former having one win from five games (and four draws) and placed fourth, below Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Punjab, on the other hand, are sixth with one win and one defeat from five games.
Gill, the captain of India in the Test and ODI formats, has not played a Ranji match this season, his last appearance being against Karnataka last season. Jadeja featured in one match for his domestic side, having played against Madhya Pradesh.
Both teams will have one more league game each after this fixture and, with no immediate international assignment, it remains to be seen whether they play the last match as well.
