Knee injury rules Jane Maguire out of T20 World Cup

Off-spinner Aimee Maguire has been included in Ireland's 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup to be held in England. While Aimee has been cleared to play after recovering from an injury, her sister, medium pacer Jane Maguire, has been ruled out due to a knee injury sustained in the ongoing Cricket Ireland Women's Super T20 Series.

Gaby Lewis will lead the Irish in their fifth Women's T20 World Cup appearance. This marks Lewis' first leadership role in a major global event, having taken over as captain from Laura Delany in 2024. Lewis, however, will sit out the tri-series involving West Indies and Pakistan as she recovers from an injury picked up during her stint with Lancashire at the ECB Women's One-Day Cup.

In Lewis' absence, vice-captain Orla Prendergast will lead the hosts with the first match commencing on May 28 in Clontarf. In the press conference following the squad announcement, Lewis confirmed her availability for selection by the time the World Cup commences.

Ireland are placed in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup alongside hosts England, reigning champions New Zealand, Scotland, Sri Lanka and West Indies. They open their campaign against Scotland in Manchester on June 13.
