India have added Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi to the T20I squad for the upcoming fixtures against New Zealand at home. Shreyas comes in for the first three T20Is - on January 21, 23 and 25, as a replacement for Tilak Varma while Bishnoi has been roped in to replace Washington Sundar.
While Tilak is expected to miss only the first three games of the series, Washington is confirmed to miss all five after scans revealed a side strain. The all-rounder has been advised rest for a few days before reporting to BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for further management of the injury.
The two setbacks come close on the heels of the Men's T20 World Cup - at home and in Sri Lanka, which begins in less than a month's time.
India's updated T20I squad: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Shreyas Iyer (first three T20Is), Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel (VC), Rinku Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ishan Kishan (WK), Ravi Bishnoi
Shreyas finds himself back in the scheme of things in the T20I squad for the first time since December 2023 - his last appearance coming against Australia in Bengaluru. Shreyas enjoyed a prolific season of IPL in 2025 - smashing 604 runs at a strike rate of 175.07. He also led Punjab Kings to the final.
Bishnoi meanwhile, last played in the format in January 2025 at home against England. He has featured in 42 T20Is, picking 61 wickets in them.
