Kohli was the world champion after three years of debut, and he continued dominating in the limited-over format. In 2011, he got the test cap against the West Indies, and he seemed to lack the technique to play in the SENA countries at the start. Initially, he played the test with his limited skill set and continually improved.

He was playing against Australia in tough conditions and played an outstanding knock in the third test match. His technique was changed, and it was visible – his stance was more open, managed to stand tall, and exhibited the back-foot shots. With time, Virat Kohli continued improving. MS Dhoni retired between the tournament when India was lagging by 1-0, and Virat Kohli became the full-time test captain for upcoming cricket matches.
