Mumbai Indians left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026, with a right shoulder injury. Santner first sustained a niggle to his non-bowling shoulder while fielding in the game against Delhi Capitals on April 4, and opted to sit out of the next match against RR on April 7.
He came back to feature against RCB on April 12 and also played against GT on April 20 but suffered another injury to the same shoulder while fielding against CSK on April 23. Santner bagged five wickets in the four matches he played this season.
Mumbai Indians have roped in Keshav Maharaj - another experienced left-arm spinner - as Santner's replacement for the remainder of the season. Maharaj has featured in only two IPL matches previously - for RR in 2024, but brings guile and experience to MI's bowling attack with 191 wickets in 218 T20s. 39 of those wickets have come across four seasons of SA20.
Since Santner's last appearance - against CSK on April 23, MI have had a long stretch of break to regroup from their abysmal start to the season that sees them placed at ninth spot currently. They next host a high-flying SRH on April 29.
