The final two teams in the ten-team competition, which will be held in Paarl, Gqebera, and Cape Town, are Bangladesh and Ireland, the winners of the 2022 ICC cricket world cup women Qualifier.
Along with New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, Australia is in Group 1. Group 2 comprises India, Pakistan, England, the West Indies, and Ireland.
On February 11 in Paarl, England will play the West Indies, and Australia will face New Zealand following South Africa’s opening match against Sri Lanka. India takes on Pakistan, and Bangladesh takes on Sri Lanka in Cape Town on February 12, the first day of the four Asian nations’ respective seasons.
The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals. Each team will play every other team in their group once, and the semifinals and championship match will all take place in Cape Town.
With a crowd of 86,175, the 2020 Women T20 match final between Australia and India at the MCG came close to breaking the all-time attendance record for a women’s sporting event and is widely seen as a turning point for the women’s game.
As we strive to build on the success of Australia 2020 and stage a mainly African celebration of cricket, we are happy to be releasing the fixture calendar for the next ICC Women’s World Cup, said ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice. “Women’s cricket, a crucial strategic objective for the game, keeps gaining momentum and drawing in more followers than ever. We are certain that this event and the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup that took place before the senior event will leave a lasting legacy to expand girls and women’s cricket worldwide. T20 is the growth vehicle for cricket.”
