IPL to have more matches from the 2023 season | CBTF Tips

The IPL 2023 or the 16th edition is about to start from 1 April to 28 April. This IPL is also known as the Tata IPL as it is the sponsor. The auction has been completed for 2023, and the BCCI is looking to increase the number of matches from 74 and may go to 84 and 94.

Earlier 8 teams used to play, but two teams were added in 2022, and the number of teams reached 10. The number of matches also increased with the number of teams, but one team was not playing twice with all the teams. BCCI has decided to increase the number of matches per season in the IPL. In 2022, broadcasting rights were sold for 48,390 crores, and IPL is only behind NFL. The interesting fact is that IPL has surpassed the English Premier League in terms of league value. Viacom18 has paid more than EPL per IPL match.

BCCI is trying to make the IPL more interesting and introduced the player rule ahead of the IPL 2023. This rule allows the team to take four substitute or impact players from the squad. The substitution can be used anytime during the match and the team can substitute any player during substitutes during the match.

BCCI has sold media rights for 2023-27, and they will increase the match number gradually. Now, 74 matches take place in the IPL, and it will be the same for two years – 2023 and 2024. The number will increase to 84 after 2024 and will continue for a couple of years. In 2027, the number of matches can increase to 94, but the BCCI has open options for 84 games.

If the number can reach 94, it will be interesting to see how BCCI will break down the number of matches. In the case of 94 games, each team will play twice with the other team – one home game and one away. Initially, the league was played in a round-robin round, and all the teams played twice with other teams, but teams were divided into two parts virtually in the IPL. five teams are placed into one group, and five teams are placed into another group. Teams in one group will play twice with each other and will play once with another group team. In the case of 84 matches, one team will play twice IPL matches in its group and twice against two of the other group and once with the other three teams.
