Royal Challengers Bangalore Team IPL

Royal Challengers Bangalore is a cricket team franchise based in Bangalore, Karnataka. The team plays in India's highly watched cricket format, which is the Indian Premier League (IPL). Royal Challengers Bangalore was one of the eight teams that participated in the inaugural of the IPL season.

The team was founded in 2008 by United Spirits, and the company named it after its liquor brand Royal Challenge.

In 2022, the team is still owned by United Spirit Limited. This company is the biggest Indian alcoholic beverage company and the second largest by volume in the world.

The company is headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka, and the company is chaired by Mahendra Kumar Sharma, along with Anand Kripalu acting as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Logo of The Team

Initially, the logo of the team was the RC emblem in yellow on a circular red base with black standard format text "Royal Challengers Bangalore" surrounding the circular logo. The RC crown emblem with the photo of a lion in it was derived from the original logo of Royal Challenge.

No significant changes took place between 2009 and 2015 except the replacement of the yellow color with golden. The logo was redesigned in 2016 and included black as a secondary color. The lion emblem on the crest was enlarged with an omission of the shield in the new design.

In 2020, a new logo was unveiled featuring a bigger lion and the crown from the previous logo reappearing. The RC emblem was omitted from the crest in the latest logo.

Ambassadors

Katrina Kaif was roped in as the first brand ambassador of the team, but later she stepped down to her prior commitments. In the initial seasons, celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Ramya, Puneeth Rajkumar, Upendra, and Ganesh were appointed as ambassadors. For the 11th season, Shiva Rajkumar was appointed as the brand ambassador.

Games Won

The team has not yet won the IPL but has finished as runners-up thrice between 2009 and 2016. The lack of achieving success in so many years has earned them the title of "underachievers." However, the team holds the record for both the highest and the lowest total of runs in IPL – 263/5 and 49, respectively.

About the Team

With Faf du Plessis as the new captain of the team and Sanjay Bangar as its coach, the team is all set to appear for the RCB next match. Let's have a detailed analysis of some of the highly reputed players one by one –

  1. Faf du Plessis

On March 12, 2022, the former RCB skipper, Virat Kohli, announced that he would be passing on the baton to Faf du Plessis, who is now the new captain of RCB. The latest season saw a new setup altogether with a change in the team colors as Faf du Plessis represented RCB in the 2022 edition of the league.

The batter from South Africa was bought by RCB for INR 7 crore at the IPL 2022 Mega audition. The player started his IPL journey with CSK and played for the team for the longest time. Later he played for Punjab Kings

Although batting is one of the strongest areas of the player when needed, du Plessis can also come up with a few handy leg-spinners. His boost of energy in the field makes him the perfect T20 captain for the team.

  1. Virat Kohli

Ahead of the start of the 14th edition of the league, the former captain announced the season as his last season in the role of the captain. He took the role of RCB's full-time captain in 2013. He led them through 140 matches, winning 66 and losing 70.

He is popularly known as a "run machine" due to his ability and hunger to hit hundreds. In the year 2016, he sat atop the leading run-scorers list, thereby donning the orange-colored cap at the end of the ninth edition of the league.

Until 2022, he was the highest-paid cricketer in IPL and the first one to be retained by his franchise ahead of the IPL 2018 Player auction.

  1. Glenn Maxwell

This all-rounder player is one of the three players retained by RCB ahead of IPL 2022. He has been retained for a huge sum of INR 11 crores. The 2021 edition saw Maxwell score a massive total of 513 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of 144.10. The hitting machine lit up the shortest format of the game with his batting exploits.

Maxwell is one of those players who has always created interest and buzz at the IPL auction. Apart from batting, he is a brilliant fielder who can contribute with his off-spins.

  1. Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik is one of those cricketers who can function as both wicket keeper as well as a batsman. He led Kolkata Knight Riders to playoffs in 2018, and his side finished fifth in the points table in 2019.

Ahead of the 2022 edition of the league, Dinesh was released by Kolkata Knight Riders and became available for auction.

He was bought for INR 5.5 crore by RCB. Karthik has been involved in the league since its inaugural in 2008. The 2022 season was his second stint with RCB after 2015, when he was acquired for a whopping sum of 10.5 crores.

The wicket-keeper batter started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in 2008 before shifting to Kings XI Punjab in 2011.

He brings a lot of value with him having an IPL career tally of 4046 runs at a strike rate of 129.72. The plus point he brings with him is being clean and tidy behind those stumps.

  1. Harshal Patel

RCB fetched Harshal Patel for a whopping INR 10.75 crore. The fast-pace bowler, also known as Purple Patel, won the purple cap in the 2021 edition of the league with 32 wickets in his pocket.

After the impressive performance in the 2021 edition of the league with Delhi Capitals, it was only apt for RCB to bag this jewel.

Wrapping Up

These were some of the best players appointed by RCB, but there are many more jewels on the team. The fact that Royal Challengers Bangalore has thousands of fans makes it one of the most popular teams of each season. Watching RCB next match is certain to be exciting for all cricket enthusiasts, and CBTF can help you achieve that!
