An Overview of Royal Challengers Bangalore Team IPL

IPL 2022: With Faf du Plessis replacing Virat Kohli as captain, Royal Challengers Bangalore will usher in a new era. RCB will be aiming to end the title drought with a good squad and high expectations.

As Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) enters the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season without Virat Kohli in charge, a new era has begun. After the conclusion of the previous season, the Indian star ended a 10-year tenure as RCB captain.

The most talked-about topic leading up to IPL 2022 was the RCB skipper and the team’s official announcement of Faf du Plessis as Virat Kohli’s replacement. The former South Africa captain, who spent almost a decade with Chennai Super Kings, brings with him a wealth of managerial expertise and success in the IPL.

New Era, New Captain

RCB has frequently underperformed in the IPL over the years, and Faf du Plessis, a respected figure in international cricket, will be aiming to change that. The former South African captain has previously emphasized that it will be a team effort and that Virat Kohli’s enthusiasm will be essential to their advancement.

The RCB has a strong core group of players with leadership skills that will serve them well. Glenn Maxwell, newcomer Dinesh Karthik, and Kohli are just a few of the players who will likely collaborate closely with du Plessis.

RCB’s New Approach

In this auction, the RCB management tried something new by making sure to replace each player and position with a like-for-like replacement. Star value, on which RCB had previously bet, was reduced, and quality players who added value to cricket were encouraged.

Although they could have tried for David Warner, who provides a more dynamic approach and a left-hander at the top, they grabbed RCB Faf du Plessis upfront to lock the opening spot. Finn Allen of New Zealand is the equivalent substitute for Faf; they both possess blistering speed at the top.

Anuj Rawat, a top-order spinner, was one intriguing selection. In the event that Virat Kohli is not selected to open, there is a significant likelihood that RCB will invest in him from the beginning. If Faf and Kohli do choose to go first, the opposition will probably launch a spin attack to suffocate them in the powerplay.

Their important player will be Glenn Maxwell, a fantastic spinner and a respectable four-over off-spinner who, depending on the matchup, can play in both the powerplay and middle overs.

Mahipal Lomror, who, although he hasn’t been reliable in the IPL, can smash spin and add left-hand value in the middle, is another intriguing selection for the RCB team.

One of the best finishers in the T20 format is Dinesh Karthik. Karthik provided RCB with an Indian wicketkeeper as well as a finisher. For the 10.75 crores they paid for Hasaranga, RCB received a good leg spinner and a useful hitter who can smash spinners. An excellent choice for a floater to target spin in the middle overs while protecting Karthik’s pace.

In addition to being the death and middle overs specialist that RCB was seeking, Harshal Patel is a capable batsman who can be utilized as a floater.

Mohammad Siraj, Josh Hazlewood, and Harshal Patel, the RCB’s top pace bowling options, tried to bowl during each phase. Powerplay plus death for Siraj, Power Play plus Middle Overs for Hazlewood, and Power Play plus Death Overs for Harshal.

They made the wise decision to acquire backups in the form of Akash Singh and Chama Milind, two uncapped pacers, Jason Behrendorff, David Willey, and Sidharth Kaul. Another unproven individual who can contribute with both the bat and the bowl is Suyash Prabhudesai.

They have Sherfane Rutherford as a dynamic power battery option that can hit both paces and spin with ease. He might serve as Faf du Plessis’ and Glenn Maxwell’s backup.

Royal Challengers Bangalore made an effort to include as many alternatives as they could in their lineup, and they largely succeeded. There is a risk associated because some of them haven’t been tried. Are they finally going to get the trophy they’ve been chasing for the previous 15 years with this team? Only time will tell.

A Lot of Misses and Smart Additions

In terms of the team, RCB released Yuzvendra Chahal, one of their greatest match-winners. For the upcoming campaign, the leg-spinner, who was not kept, has joined Rajasthan Royals.

However, they managed to secure Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka for a staggering sum of Rs 10.25 crore, making him an essential member of the starting XI.

New RCB Team

One might associate the adage “Change is the only constant” with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL Mega Auction team composition. The RCB attempted to adopt a new strategy this year in order to develop the team for the future and finally win the title.

RCB entered the major event with a purse of 57 crores and started their auction procedure by keeping three players: Virat Kohli (15 crores), Glenn Maxwell (11 crores), and Mohammad Siraj (7 crores).

Twenty-two players and 1.55 crores were all that RCB had left after the auction. Bangalore took a novel strategy by attempting to add new players to the team. They spent 25.2 crores at the auction to repurchase six players who were a part of the RCB lineup the previous year while keeping three for 33 crores.

During the auction, RCB placed a bet on 11 capped players for 47.55 crores and purchased eight uncapped players for 7.9 crores. They spent 30.05 crores on seven foreign players, with the exception of Glenn Maxwell. The two players who cost RCB the most money were Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga, who each cost 10.75 crores.
