Cricket SA Announce Host Venues for Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 | CBTF Tips

On Friday, the ICC announced a jury of three match officials and ten referees, made up of representatives from seven countries. The match umpires are GS Lakshmi (India), Shandre Fritz (South Africa) and Michell Pereira (Sri Lanka). Field and TV judges are Sue Redfern (England), Eloise Sheridan (Australia), Claire Polosak (Australia),Jacqueline Williams (West Indies), Kim Cotton (New Zealand), Lauren Agenbag (South Africa), Anna Harris (England). ), Vrinda Rathi (India), N Janani (India) and Nimali Perera (Sri Lanka).

The selection of this body was part of the “strategic ambition of the governing body to increase the engagement and visibility of women in cricket,” says the ICC women cricket statement.

South Africa (23 August 2022) – South Africa will host the 2023 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 and ICC Women’s T20 World Cups. This is very exciting news from the world of cricket and another nod to our beautiful country as a host country for major sporting events.

Upcoming cricket matches will bring an influx of sports fans to South Africa, always leading to an increase in tourism as South Africa has so much to offer. from the rolling hills of the Eastern Cape to the white sandy beaches of Cape Town, let’s not forget bush walking in Mpumalanga or the beautiful arid Karoo just outside the Western Cape.

Cricket in South Africa has published a list of venues, which will host international sports teams.

The locations are spread over four provinces. These are:

  • JB Marks Oval – Potchefstroom, North West
  • Willowmoore Park – Benoni, Gauteng
  • Boland Park – Paarl, Western Cape
  • Newlands Cricket Grounds – Newlands, Western Cape
  • St Georges Park – Gquberha, Eastern Cape

The jury will also include the largest number of referees and match officials in the ICC World Tournament, four more than the nine participants in the current U19-U20 Women’s World Cup.

“Women -Cricket has grown rapidly in recent years and as part of that we have created ways to give more women the opportunity to serve at the highest level,” said Wasim Khan, Managing Director of ICC Cricket. This announcement reflects our intentions with the space and is just the beginning of our journey in which men and women in our sport have equal opportunities.

“We are committed to continuing to support our game officials and opportunities to showcase their talents on the world stage.I wish them all the best for the tournament.The eighth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup begins on February 10th with hosts South Africa and Sri Lanka. Defending champions Australia play in Group A with New Zealand from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Group B includes England, India, Ireland, Pakistan and the West Indies. The top two teams in each group advance to the semi-finals.The games will be played in Cape Town, Gqebera and Paarl with the final scheduled for February 26th in Newlands. 

The opening match of the eighth Women’s T20 World Cup pits South Africa against Sri Lanka at Newlands in Cape Town on February 10. The tournament’s Final is scheduled on February 26.
