The Indian Premier League is a festival of its own. A celebrated affair that has happened every year since 2008. In 2008, BCCI created the Indian Premier League, the best combination of sports and entertainment, to attract audiences from all over the world. Indians, as well as people from other countries, watch IPL with great enthusiasm and energy. And why not? There’s nothing better than watching your favorite teams and players in friendly matches and cheering for them.

Chennai Super Kings, or CSK, has been a huge part of the IPL franchise since the beginning. The team has a special place in the hearts of all cricket-crazy fans. And the hype around the team is on another level, all for good reasons.

The team has given so many reasons to love them and have a huge fanbase – They are one of the most consistent teams, playing in the finals and even winning them four times. And Mahendra Singh Dhoni. After all, who doesn’t love Captain Cool?

However, the 2022 IPL CSK  performance was subpar at best. Even after having talented players of the cricket world like MSD, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Moeen Ali, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and many more, the squad was found to not be able to keep up with their performance, leaving the fans disheartened.

The opening match of the IPL was held between CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders. Both teams had an excellent history in previous IPL seasons. However, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the super Kings by six wickets. Match highlights were M.S. Dhoni scored his first 50 in IPL after three years. KKR bowlers wiped out 5 CSK batters quickly. There were handy contributions from R. Jadeja and Robin Uthappa. The Knights easily chased down the target with nine balls to spare due to contributions from Ajinkya Rahane and other members.

In the seventh match of IPL 2022, CSK clashed with Lucknow Super Giants. It was LSG’s debut match, and surely they didn’t fail their fan’s expectations. CSK set a challenging score of 210 as Robin Uthappa scored a 50 off 28 deliveries while Shivam Dube was just one run shy from scoring his half-century in 30 balls. Lucknow Openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Koc both handled the batting perfectly. With an outstanding partnership between the two paved the way for Evin Lewis, who remained on the field till the end, scoring 55 runs.

Another game followed by another defeat. That will sum up the match between CSK and Punjab Kings. CSK began off the wrong footing, losing five wickets (4 within the powerplay) in the span of eight overs with a score of a mere 38. The situation stabilized a bit as Shivam Dube stepped on the field, attaining a 50. CSK set 127 as PBKS’s target.

Punjab also had troubles in the beginning, but Liam Livingston put everyone’s mind at ease as he smashed 60 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Jitesh Sharma chipped in with valuable contributions to help Punjab score 180 for 8 in 20 overs. In the 17th match of IPL 2022, CSK faced a further slump as Sunrisers Hyderabad won their first match of IPL 2022. Chennai batters were struggling to make runs.

The 22nd match of the season was finally a game-changer for CSK as they finally registered their first win. Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa placed a tremendous partnership of 165 runs. Uthappa was then dismissed for 88, but Dube continued working hard as he ended the game with 95 runs off 46 balls.

CSK also had a great start with bowling. They wiped out four wickets in the first seven overs, courtesy of Maheesh Theekshana. Chennai Super Kings succeeded by 23 runs. In the following seven matches, CSK alternated between losing and winning the matches with Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians again.

Gujarat Titans triumphed over defending champions by three wickets after David Miller, and skipper Rashid Khan surprised the opponents with their blistering hits to direct the Titans’ run chase.

Even though CSK dropped at least four catches, Chennai Super Kings snatched away victory from the jaws of Mumbai Indians after former skipper M.S. Dhoni turned the clock back by hitting a last-ball boundary, making it into the IPL playoffs. The team needed 16 runs off four balls, and Dhoni hit one six, ran double, and shot two boundaries to chase 16 off four balls. MI bowlers excelled in bowling as they made things tough for Chennai batters during the run chase.

The 62nd match of IPL 2022 was held at Wankhede Stadium. Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans faced each other again. CSK winning the toss, opted to bat first and posted a below-par score of 133/5 as none of their batsmen found a way to ambush the Titan bowlers.

Matheesha Pathirana looked very remarkable on his IPL debut as he knocked out Shubman Gill’s wicket on his first ball of the tournament. Another newcomer Prashant Solanki also looked very careful with the ball. Gujarat Titans won against Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets and ensured that they seal a place in the top 2 of the points table so that they will be playing qualifier 1 of IPL 2022.

Chennai Super Kings played their final match with Rajasthan Royals for the playoffs. Ravichandran Ashwin played excellently alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal as Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in Match 68.

Wrapping Up

Of all the 14 matches, Chennai Super Kings managed to win only 4 of them against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
