Women’s cricket has seen exponential growth in recent years, and the change in approach is one of the main reasons. Still, men’s cricket gets more views and audiences than women’s cricket. The first women’s match was played on 26 July 1745 as per the record, and the first international match was played in 1934. It was the first-ever test match between England and Australia.

Women’s cricket matches are important, not only for women but also important for cricket. The BCCI has announced the WIPL, and it will be a huge booster for cricket. IPL has done an exceptional job and is beneficial to cricket. T20I was introduced to the world, and the IPL was formed in the same format. It helped make cricket famous and exciting. Cricket fans and experts have been demanding the WIPL over the years, and the BCCI has started WIPL for 2023. WBBL has helped women cricketers to express their talent to the world, and WIPL will do the same.

Women’s cricket has shown potential over the years, and it shows that the growth in women’s cricket matches will be beneficial for cricket. Here are a few things that show that the involvement of women is crucial.

Women have Played World Cup Before the Men

 

You might be surprised that women have played the world cup before men, and it was held in 1973. The first-ever men’s world cup was played in 1975, and most people remember it as the first world cup. West Indies was the winner of the first men’s world cup. But it is not true as 7 teams participated in the world cup, and England was the winner of the world cup by finishing first on the table.

Four Consecutive Century in ODI

Women’s cricketers have one of the biggest records in ODI, and it is almost impossible to break. New Zealand batter Amy Satterthwaite created the record of back-to-back four centuries – three against Pakistan and one against Australia. In men’s cricket, only Kumar Sangakkara holds the record of back-to-back four centuries in 2015. It is something that other players have not been able to achieve. Many players have scored back-to-back three centuries but couldn’t replicate it.

First Double Century

Whenever we talk about the first double century, only one name comes to mind “Sachin Tendulkar.” Sachin Tendulkar was the first person to hit a double century in 2010 against South Africa. But he was not the first cricketer, Australian batter Belinda Clark was the first batter to score a double century, and she was the female cricketer. In 1997, a female cricketer hit a double century in ODI innings against Denmark. She was also the highest scorer in ODI till 2014, and later Rohit Sharma broke her record.

No Foul Activities

Cricket is known as a gentleman’s game as it is not an aggressive game like football and other games. But you have seen sledging and aggression in men’s cricket, and sometimes umpires have to come in between to solve the issue. In women’s matches, there is not any scandal reported like spot-fixing and match-fixing. On the other hand, there are a lot of scandals that have been reported in men’s cricket. 

Importance of Women’s Cricket Match

Many people have claimed that cricket is a gender-biased game and that men are dominating the game. Cricket is not a gender-biased game, and the involvement of women’s players has stopped cricket from becoming a gender-biased game. Australia and England were the only two teams that were dominant but many teams have come and made the women’s cricket match even more competitive.

Indian women batter Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and other batters are capable of entertaining the audience like men’s players are doing. They have played many innings over the years. They have become the most competitive players.
